For after effects workflow

Finding deleted or missing footage from an After Effects project:

Always working from servers this is a major problem if you are like me and have files going everywhere. If you can't just search your entire system for the missing files the trick that I use is to open up word pad (if you are on a PC) and locate your .aep project.

Opening this is word pad will give you some of the information that is contained in the actual after effects project. As it works on references to paths you should be able to see where your old footage was located which might help you find it. Sure it's not perfect but its more information than After Effects gives you in the files panel.

Creating a template folder structure:

I try to get in the habit of at least creating a default template structure for After Effects projects in Windows. You could just create your template structure and save out that folder path for every new project that you work on but if you need to automate that process.

Navigate to the folder that you want to add a structure to.

Create a text file in that folder called FolderList.txt with the entries as:

folder01
folder02
folder03
folder04
folder05

save the file txt file.

Paste into dos:
FOR /F "delims=~" %f in (FolderList.txt) DO MD "%f"

This is a way of generating a structure very quickly.

The other method is to create a .bat (batch) file. This is a good way if you need to get into subfolders.

mkdir 01
cd 01
mkdir 01a
cd..
mkdir 02

Start menu speed:

Regedit - find showmenudelay should be at 400 set it to 0 so that there is no delay when showing the start menu items.
