After working in post production for almost 7 years now it has been an absolute pleasure to work on something that combines skills that I have learnt over the years - from compositing, 3d animation, design and most importantly techniques from motion graphics. This relaxation dvd has been a project that I have been working on for about 6 months full time - produced in true HD 1920 x 1080 it uses the most relaxing photography and video combined with color healing, sound healing, relaxation techniques and ideas/concepts from spiritual teachings. To my knowledge there is nothing like this DVD on the market today which is why I was so motivated to work on this project. There are other relaxation DVD's on the market that really aren't that relaxing - they use shaky handicam vision or just generic shots of landscapes. I wanted to combine the real and the virtual in this work and create something truly unique, modern and relaxing for the viewer. Also there is an element of design and understanding of the aesthetics of relaxation (view relaxing wallpapers) that I wanted to bring to this project, researching as much imagery and concepts of what relaxation actually means to people as there is a whole visual language related to relaxation - colors, sounds, textures. With a runtime of 30 minutes it has been a huge challenge to work on as every single shot is a composite and with most containing some 3d elements or natural world elements, render times have been huge. Almost equally challenging has been the soundtrack - the idea behind this disc is to craft an experience through sound and imagery. To slow people down to a state of relaxation is actually rather difficult, to slow and it's boring, to fast and it's not relaxing. The soundtrack is more like a relaxing soundscape, combining sounds that I have recorded on mini-disc and music that I have composed it balances nicely with the imagery.
